Certificates, Training and Experience
I didn't really know what I wanted to do when I grew up. All I had known was that I needed to go to University. I was a high school drop out/teenage Mom at 18 years old. I was able to graduate from high school with Honours in Kentville, NS. I moved on to and graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Psychology. From there, my 7 year old son and I moved across the country to BC where I went to BCIT to get a Forensic Science Diploma in 2006.
My work experience up until that point was with adults with developmental disabilities in the Lower Mainland of BC.
I advocated and promoted employment initiatives across the province before switching gears to child protection social work. Through this path I have been working toward stopping the cycle of intergenerational trauma that has impacted our First Nations People in Canada since the era of residential schools and the 60s scoop. Having been the daughter of a residential school survivor, I experienced first hand what the attempted cultural genocide of my Cree ancestors look like. Fortunately, I have been learning about culture, traditions and spirituality from my relatives in Northern Manitoba as well as from the territory's that I have had the honour to live on.
I have 200 hours of Yoga Teacher Training from Multistyle Yoga International as well as Buti yoga, Buti Deep and Hot Buti certifications. I continue to grow, evolve, practice and find my niche as a part time yoga instructor in my local community.
I am also a member of the Canadian Rangers where I have been certified in ATV training, snowmobile operators and Ice water rescue courses as well as First Aid.
I have been an online health and fitness coach for over five years to help others find and love themselves.
I am currently studying Natural Nutrition at a distance from the Canadian School for Natural Nutrition.
